WHY WE EXIST

Our purpose is to advance the global mindset towards anticipating and adapting to climate impact.

We believe society will see threat in climate change rather than opportunity unless provided with data-driven insights offering a sense of understanding and control.

WHY OPEN CORE

Open core are commercial products built on open source projects. Open source projects allow for the highest transparency in the underlying framework, input data, calculation methodology and modelling assumptions. In a world where greenhushing and greenwashing is of concern, our open core model provides the incentive to confidently publish climate-related disclosures.

WHY PROBABILISTIC MODELLING

One cannot argue that the future is inherently unpredictable. It is therefore imperative that forward-looking analytics work off the right premise as to which information will afford the most relevant insights.

Probabilistic modelling takes a past event, such as a hurricane track, and replicates this multiple times for a more complete and comprehensive rendition of possible eventualities, including tail risks. In contrast, a deterministic approach offers a static view of future impact, resulting in potential blind spots.

“When I was 16, my teacher gave me a book called “Weather makes history”, that was quite some time ago. Today this holds more true than ever.”

WHY CLIMATE ADAPTATION

Today, the world talks of transition risk and mitigation. Yet even with the most ambitious mitigation measures in place, we cannot avoid the fact that there will be an increase in the frequency and intensity of weather extremes. Tomorrow will require a more comprehensive understanding of how we can best adapt to climate change.

The Economics of Climate Adaptation (ECA) is a framework powered by CLIMADA, providing decision-makers with practical recommendations to address climate-related damage to their environment, economies and societies. ECA projects have been implemented globally across an extensive range of assets and hazards.
