Heat is becoming a growing operational and financial risk for healthcare infrastructure.

In this joint report, CLIMADA Technologies and Resilens analyse how rising temperatures could impact 39 hospital sites across the Canton of Zurich through 2080 — from increasing heat stress on patients and staff to higher cooling demand and infrastructure pressure.

The study combines climate projections, vulnerability analysis and adaptation economics to identify which hospital sites are most at risk and which measures deliver the highest long-term resilience value.

Key findings include:

• Heat stress days at Zurich hospitals could increase from around 9 today to up to 60 days per year by 2080
• More than 51,000 patients and healthcare workers per year could benefit from heat adaptation measures
• Nature-based solutions such as urban trees and green roofs show strong long-term economic value
• Climate risks for healthcare infrastructure are already measurable and can be prioritised systematically
