Modelling labour productivity losses
SBB Assesses Heat Stress Risks to Safeguard Workforce and Productivity
CLIMADA Technologies carried out a heat stress risk assessment for SBB to evaluate how rising temperatures may affect labour productivity and operations across their work force.
Using the delta-climate™ platform, the analysis combined climate projections with workforce and financial data to estimate potential productivity losses under future heat scenarios.
The study assessed exposure to extreme heat days, considering both outdoor and indoor working conditions. A heat–productivity model was applied to quantify expected performance impacts and identify critical thresholds for safe operations. The results highlight where adaptation measures, such as schedule adjustments, infrastructure cooling, or workplace design, can most effectively reduce risk.
This provides SBB with a science-based foundation for protecting employee well-being and maintaining operational continuity. The project supports SBB’s broader goal of enhancing resilience to climate change while ensuring workforce safety and efficiency.
